In the Project Falsafa a research is made into the construction and foundation of Arabic patterns. Departure point is the Islamic philosophy of Falsafa, which states that one can achieve ultimate intellect and beauty through geometry and the mathematical construction of patterns.
During the exhibition of Back Stage on Stage at Salone del Mobile Milan 2014 the analysis and investigation continued in the essence of patterns, geometry and symmetry. In a production line of a growing series of imprints the visitor gained insight into the construction of seemingly complex patterns.

The Bravais Armchair by Lazerian
The Bravais armchair is part of a collaborative project between furniture designer Liam Hopkins and artist Richard Sweeney at Lazerianstudio, Manchester. The armchair’s organic shape – inspired by structural forms in nature, such as a wasp nest – is an assembly of structural triangular prisms. Based on CAD 3d modelling, the organic form was divided into triangular planes that were printed and used as cut-outs. Over two hundred cardboard components were hand-cut and glued together to create the Bravais Armchair.
No Adhesives
Hmmm...complaining about no tape or glue when making your bed???
Chance City, Jean Shin
"Chance City is made up of thousands of discarded scratch-and-win lottery tickets that have been arranged into an urban complex, constructed as a house of cards. Embodying the failed hopes of ordinary people, the worthless lottery tickets become building blocks for monumental, yet temporary structures. While no glue was used to make these towering and precariously-balanced edifices, they are sturdier than they look. The structures, literally held up by gravity and friction, are symbols of the American Dream representing how labor, money and resilience defy the odds of a fragile existence." Link here.
And this person too. No bending, no folding, no tape, no glue. Bryan Berg

The manner in which the pre-printed images are cut out and arranged generates ideas for the Architecture Relief Assignment.
