The Stable/Mobile Fabrication Assignment! Critique: Tuesday, 23 Feb

Ok, all - You did a FABULOUS job on the last assignment - and I did not have one bit of doubt that you would fabricate some awesome-possum work.  Next is a choice = yes you do have a choice for your work to hang or to stand.  Remember it will be in the round - observed from all angles.

Please email me or talk to me if you ever get stuck and maybe I can help you out some....

You will be creating a sculptural mobile/stable using materials of your choice.  Objectives for this project include the following…

-To understand and experiment with the elements of "time, change, and motion" in the construction of three-dimensional forms.

-To explore how sculptural form can be understood as the product of dynamic forces.

-To explore formal elements of art and design including color, balance, symmetry, line, and unity.

-To introduce a range of methods for creating kinetic sculptures powered by the wind.

Materials:

Metal wire hangers, wire cutters, spinners, eye hooks, various other materials depending on your ideas, wood, paint, sandpaper

 References

Alexander Calder, Ned Kahn, Hans Haacke, Robert Smithson, Lew Alquist, Umberto Boccioni, Vollis Simpson, Art at the Exploratorium

YAY - Go forward Fabricators!!!  Remember - you can use things like jewelry, clips, go visit Grandma and rumage - or go visit Jess's Grandma.  Don't forget you can always discuss your plan with me - anytime.  Yay
